COUNSELING AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES

CAPS serves as the primary mental health service at Northwestern University with offices on both the Evanston and Chicago campuses. CAPS provides a set of core services, including clinical services, educational workshops, and consultation with faculty, staff, and parents. CAPS is free to full-time matriculated students and based on a short-term model

THE 988 SUICIDE AND CRISIS LIFELINE

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (formerly known as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline) provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, across the United States. The Lifeline is comprised of a national network of over 200 local crisis centers, combining custom local care and resources with national standards and best practices.

CENTER FOR AWARENESS, RESPONSE & EDUCATION (CARE)

The mission of CARE is to create a culture of healthy sexuality at Northwestern University where sexual violence, relationship violence, and stalking are not tolerated. CARE is a confidential space for students impacted by sexual violence, relationship violence or stalking, including friends or partners of survivors.

TIMELY CARE

TimelyCare is offered to Northwestern students at no cost and offers various services: 

  • TalkNow connects a student with a counselor to provide immediate care when students experience stress or anxiety and need someone to talk to in the moment. 

  • Scheduled counseling individual appointments with licensed counselors. There is a limit of 12 scheduled appointments per academic year.

  • Health coaching provides information and guided sessions on well-being topics such as dealing with conflict, time management, exercise, sleep, nutrition, and mindfulness.

Health Promotion and Wellness is the primary provider of health promotion, education, and prevention programs and services on alcohol, other drugs, and wellness issues for Northwestern University students. The mission of Health Promotion and Wellness is to educate and empower students to make healthy decisions that enhance individual success and community well-being.

THE TREVOR PROJECT

The Trevor Project is the worlds largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ+ youth. They offer peer support for a safe social networking community and crisis service support via text, phone, and chat. All conversations are confidential.

MENTAL HEALTH AMERICA

MHA is the nation’s leading community-based nonprofit dedicated to addressing the needs of those living with mental illness and to promoting the overall mental health of all Americans. Their website offers tremendous resources and can help you navigate the world of mental health. Mental Health America offers free mental health screenings — one of the quickest and easiest ways to determine whether you are experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition.

 

NATIONAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE HOTLINE

The National Domestic Violence Hotline provides essential tools and support to help survivors of domestic violence so they can live their lives free of abuse. Contacts to The Hotline can expect highly-trained, expert advocates to offer free, confidential, and compassionate support, crisis intervention information, education, and referral services in over 200 languages. You can contact the hotline via phone, text, or online chat.
