IfYoureReadingThis.org is one of many great resources available to Virginia Tech students. Below we’ve provided a brief description of a few of these resources, as well as how to access them. While this list is not exhaustive, we hope it is helpful.

 
 

COOK COUNSELING CENTER

Cook Counseling Center is an on-campus mental health resource committed to offering counseling services to Virginia Tech students including individual counseling, group counseling, couples therapy, career counseling and more.

TIMELY CARE

TimelyCare is offered to Virginia Tech students at no cost and offers three services: 

  • TalkNow connects a student with a counselor to provide immediate care when students experience stress or anxiety and need someone to talk to in the moment. 

  • Scheduled counseling appointments with counselors licensed in the state where the student is located. There is a limit of 12 scheduled appointments per academic year.

  • Health coaching provides information and guided sessions on well-being topics such as dealing with conflict, time management, exercise, sleep, nutrition, and mindfulness.

RAFT CRISIS HOTLINE

The Raft Crisis Hotline is a program of NRVCS that offers free paraprofessional phone counseling services to the community. Volunteers provide suicide and crisis intervention, empathy and support, mental health and substance abuse information and referrals to the local communities including Virginia Tech and Radford University.

Raft operates 4 p.m. – 8 a.m. Monday through Friday and 24 hours on the weekends. NRVCS Case Managers answer the phones during business hours and New Horizons, a residential crisis stabilization program, provides callers with services when volunteers are unavailable.

VIRGINIA TECH WOMEN’S CENTER

The Women’s Center serves as a resource for Virginia Tech and the surrounding community on gender-related and women’s issues, sponsors educational programs and events that raise awareness of women’s issues, and serves as an on-campus focal point for services for survivors, their friends and families.

HOKIE WELLNESS

Hokie Wellness offers a variety of health & wellness services in every format: one-on-one health consultations, group format workshops, and campus outreach & events. Support is focused on topics that are important in college: sleep, nutrition, mental health, body image, sexual health, party positive (substance use), financial wellness, and more!

FEELS PEER SUPPORT GROUPS

FEELS Peer Support Groups are mental health support spaces by students for students. This group is a space to connect with fellow Hokies who are navigating their mental health concerns and exploring how to maintain their emotional well-being.

VIRGINIA TECH RECOVERY COMMUNITY

The Virginia Tech Recovery Community works to ensure that students do not have to choose between their recovery and their education. They support students inside and outside the classroom, organize events and trips, and provide space for recovery meetings. Anyone is welcome to the meetings to find out more. You don’t have to commit to being sober forever, just sober for today.

ACTIVE MINDS

Active Minds at Virginia Tech is a student-led group that works to increase awareness about mental health issues and actively create change in the Virginia Tech community. The chapter raises funds for critical mental health education and resources, promotes positive mental health and wellness, educates students and educators about the signs and symptoms of mental health disorders, and encourages students who are struggling to reach out and seek help.

POWER OF THE MIND

Power of the Mind is a student-run club at Virginia Tech that aims to assist students in coping with stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health related issues through meditation and similarly related practices. The group wants to allow students to have a space and community on campus that is supportive and positive towards all students in the Virginia Tech community.
